The math department at WHS poses for a picture. They dressed up as the Addams family and took first place in the contest.

The bowls are filled with candy, the pumpkins are carved, the masks are on… it is finally Halloween time. Every year the wizards do a Halloween costume contest. This year it was run by the advisory teacher committee, with help from Student Council. Let’s take a look into the 2023 contest.

“I just love the whole month of October, I get excited about it. I watch scary movies at least three or four a week during the whole month of October. It reminds me of being a kid, the leaves falling, trick or treating, the fun stuff, it just takes you back,” Chris Jones (staff) said.

The math department won the team costume contest. Jones was Gomez Addams. “The hardest part about dressing up was having to spray all of my hair black,” Jones said.

Though the English department won the team category last year, the math department was well known for their cohesive costumes for years and came back for the victory this year.

“The best part about getting to dress up was probably getting to see what everyone was dressed up as. It was cool to see what people were into,” Sam Hoyt (12) said. He dressed up as a homeless man for the contest this year.

Jessica Teal (staff) is in the family and consumer sciences department and dressed up with her department members. They dressed up as different size pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks.

“I love the creativity behind it, like everybody has their own view on costumes and they do their own versions of things and it’s just fun,” Ms. Teal said.
