Windsor’s FCCLA has done it again. The chapter has two new members that were selected for leadership positions at the district level.
Windsor now has a total of five members that were selected to be in leadership roles in the Northern Colorado chapter of FCCLA.
Lyla Bumford (11) was selected to be the president, Sonia Miller (11) is the first vice president, Ruth Stephens (11) is the second vice president, Adeline Freytag (11) is the new secretary and Lucas Penn (11) is the new treasurer.
In early February the students filled out an application and prepared a prop speech to give to a panel where they related a prop of their choice to their skills they would use in a leadership position.
Along with this they did an interview with the panel and a knowledge test about FCCLA and also recited the FCCLA creed from memorization.
Jessica Teal (staff) is the adviser for Windsor’s FCCLA and helped the students prepare for the selection process. She talked about the role that they play as officers and what they do to work together.
“The president doesn’t really have one specific thing, they oversee all of the committee work for the Northern District Conference and then the secretary takes minutes for the meetings and helps out with planning the conference,” Teal said. “First and second vice president step in to oversee the process if the president can’t make it. Penn oversees all the money, so they all collectively, in addition to the other two officers, work together to plan the Northern District conference in the fall.”

Penn is new to FCCLA this year and is the treasurer for the Northern District. He talked about why he decided to run for a leadership position.
“I wanted to run because I really enjoyed FCCLA and I wanted to be able to spread more of FCCLA and be more involved than I already am,” Penn said.
Bumford is the president of both the Windsor Chapter and the Northern District. She talked about what impact she wants to have on FCCLA.
“I hope to make FCCLA very collaborative, because of my role as president I don’t want to take over,” Bumford said. “I want everyone to be able to put their ideas into a collective unit so we can make a product we are all proud of.”
Penn used his swim goggle for his prop speech, relating it to how he can protect his peers like how goggles protect him. Bumford used her “Mamma Mia” script book, relating it to how scripts bring people together and she emphasized preparation and putting people in roles that they shine in.
Congratulations to the five new officers from Windsor for their success and new leadership positions for the Northern Colorado District FCCLA.
