New Link Crew members, including Tristyn Bruning (11) and Kale Frederick (11), collaborate with Cammie Smith (staff), one of the Link Crew advisers, in the upper collab space. The meeting was for new Link Crew members to prepare for their leadership role in the fall.

WHS has added a new club that is going to not only help connect the new students walking through the doors of the school but also help the older students learn leadership skills.

Jessica Teal (staff), Cammie Smith (staff) and Karisa Hocke-Rossman (staff) are the leaders of this new club. They all participated in their school’s Link Crew and are excited to get it started here at WHS.

The students who will participate in this club are 2024-25 juniors and seniors. The Link Leaders consist of these students because the crew wants upcoming freshmen to have leaders with the most experience in high school.

Most of the crew members were suggested by teachers because they have shown leadership skills in classes and teachers felt they would excel from this experience. Although this is the first year the club will be going on at the school, the students are excited about the experience. Sonia Miller (10) will be an upcoming junior and one of the new members. She said, “I think Link Crew is something that is definitely needed in Windsor High School, and I think that it’ll be super helpful for upcoming freshmen.”

Teal, who is going to be helping with the training of the freshman, said, “On the training day we are going to get into the activities that are going to be the foundation of our orientation day, so our Link Leaders are the students that are leading the activities for the small groups of students they will have.” On the last day of school, May 22, the crew met for the first time from noon to 2:30.

Smith, who is another adviser, is super excited about this new club and said, “When I went to the training in January it took all of thirty minutes to figure out why I was there and why the adults were sent for link crew, and I think this is going to be a huge, positive change for Windsor High.”

The goal of this club is to connect the upcoming freshmen with students who already attend the school and help the freshmen have a mentor that they can go to instead of an adult.

The offical training for the upperclassmen will take place Aug. 12-13 and then they will be there most of the day for Freshman Invasion Day, which consists of the freshmen getting a day to themselves to figure out classes before the other grade levels start.

Overall, Link Crew is a club that is going to create a fun and new environment for the freshmen to excel in. The hope for this club is to make the WHS community stronger and bring all the grade levels together.
