Preface

No matter who you ask, everyone has a different opinion about who the best Spider-Man is. The general consensus is that Tom Holland played the best overall Marvel hero. But before the title of the best Spider-Man can be given, some factors must be taken into consideration.

People’s Choice

This comes with no surprise, as Tom Holland is the Spider-Man closer to our generation, as well as the Spider-Man with the coolest gadgets and devices. His father-son-like relationship with the fan-favorite Tony Stark also contributed to the vote being in his favor. Holland brought a new kind of Peter Parker to the big screen. He was quirky and charming all in one and his looks definitely didn’t harm his case. While Holland’s version is the only Spider-Man featured with the Avengers, he doesn’t deserve the title as the best.

Best Powers

Tobey Maguire was the only Spidey that could produce his own webs naturally. The other two had to build web-shooting apparatuses to activate their abilities. This wins the category for Maguire without any competition. However, Tom Holland had the strongest Spider-Man with the best physical combat skills. This strength was showcased when Holland had to hold a ferry together with his webs in the 2017 “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” Andrew Garfield had the best cardio and parkour during combat with enemies.

Best Peter Parker

There is hardly a question for who played the best Peter Parker. Andrew Garfield brought the quirky, witty Peter Parker to the big screen. Some viewers credit his talent to his background in musical theater before he began acting. Said experience was displayed in Garfield’s later performance in the 2021 film “Tick, Tick… Boom!” Even when hidden behind the mask, Garfield gave the most entertaining performance out of the three actors. Shyre Hodson (11), Andrew Garfield enthusiast and blogger about all things film, said, “I think Andrew gave him that sense of realness as to who Peter Parker is.”

Best Love Interest

Gwen Stacy in the 2012 “The Amazing Spider-Man” was the best love interest for Peter Parker out of the three adaptations. Emma Stone portrayed the intelligent and headstrong character to accompany Andrew Garfield’s hero perfectly. Garfield and Stone’s off-screen romance made the chemistry in the film so much more believable. “I thought Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield were such a cute couple in real life and seeing them in the movie was even better,” Madison Knight (10) said.

Best Villains

Tobey Maguire had the most interesting villains to watch during his trilogy. Green Goblin is my personal favorite antagonist in all of the movies — not all bad guys need to have an underlying message to teach the audience. Sometimes villains can just be bad for no reason other than wanting to be evil. I enjoyed Doc Oc for that same reason in the later movies. However, the Sandman in the 2007 “Spider-Man 3″ was almost unbearably boring to watch. I had to stop watching the movie because he was such an uninteresting character. So it’s easy to call the Green Goblin the best Spider-Man villain.

Author’s Choice

In my extremely humble (and accurate) opinion, Andrew Garfield wins the title of the best Spider-Man. He was the most skilled actor out of the three and his talent carried him through the films. Emma Stone also contributed to the excellence of those movies. Her chemistry with Garfield was heart-warming up until her tragic death in the second movie. If I’m going to sit down and have a marathon of one of the versions of Spider-Man, I’m watching Garfield’s.
