The Windsor High School cheer team received a well-deserved honor from the Weld County Commissioner on Feb. 26, celebrating their victory at the state championship. The ceremony, held at the Weld County Courthouse, included cheerleaders introducing themselves individually and performing as a group.
This year’s cheer team has been known for its dedication and powerful school spirit, which helped clinch the state title. The performance at the state finals made the history books for Windsor’s sports: this was the first time in WHS history that the cheer team won the state title.
Coach Liz Kampschroeder praised the team for all the hard work they put into this season. “I am so proud that we came together on the mat as a team to show what is possible with hard work and determination,” she said. “To go undefeated and win a state championship is something historic.”
The cheer team members were presented with a certification of recognition from Weld County stating that Feb. 26, 2025 is now known as Windsor Wizards Day. Adyson Roles (11), one of the members who was honored during the ceremony, said, “It was so special to not only be recognized for all our hard work but to get to do it with a team that truly has something special.”

During the ceremony, the cheer team was recognized for their amazing work. They demonstrated some of their school chants and routines.
“This team is made up of 19 athletes, and the sum together resulted in our success,” Kampschoeder said. “We had to put our individual egos aside for the good of the team, and when we were able to do that, it showed in our performance.”
State is an incredible test of athletes’ performances, strengths and teamwork, but the journey to get to state is just as much of a testament of these feats. The team went an unprecedented 7-0 in competition season before state.
“This team worked so hard this season,” Roles said. “It was a big accomplishment for us winning state, and it’s so nice that not only the school community has noticed, but also the town of Windsor.”
The cheer team has now been formally recognized by the school, the town of Windsor and the Board of County Commissioners for Weld County for their historic accomplishment.
“It is a subjective sport and relies on the trust and skill of each person working together, and a little magic which we definitely had with this team,” Kampschroeder said.
The future is unknown, but one thing is for sure: the cheerleaders brought the magic back to the WHS gym this year.
