For the past three months, the Student Council has been planning and preparing for Share the Love Week (in conjunction with Key Club) and the Sadie Hawkins dance, with Share the Love Week running Feb. 18-21 and the Sadie’s dance on Feb. 22 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
“We started thinking about it basically as soon as second semester started,” Danae Beeman (09) said. Beeman is the Student Council secretary for the freshman class of 2027.
However, this year’s planning process was different from past years. This year, Student Council had a full partnership with Key Club.
“It was something brand new, with a full partnership with Key Club. We put in a little bit more of that planning and infrastructure late December to early January,” Student Council adviser and social studies teacher Michael Thompson (staff) said.

The partnership with Key Club was put in place as a way to raise money for a Make-A-Wish recipient: Ariel, a 5-year-old kid with a genetic disorder whose wish is to go to Universal Studios to meet Spider-Man. In addition, 50% of the Sadie’s dance ticket sales went to Make-A-Wish.
“That’s been kinda the best part about this year, we’re kinda doing something new and fun,” Student Council co-president Madi Romme (12) said.
Student Council hosted a pep assembly on Feb. 21 during advisory, featuring a speaker from Make-A-Wish to share her story about how her family benefited from donations.
To raise additional funds, Student Council and Key Club organized Change Wars, bake sales and candy/flower grams.
For Change Wars, advisories competed to bring as much spare change as they could. Cash, however, was a negative in the class’s total and students were allowed to sabotage other advisory classes with cash. The prize for the winning advisory was a donut party. This year’s winning class was Trevor Wynn’s (staff) advisory of seniors, with $105.40.
Bake sales, organized by Key Club, took place on Feb. 7 and Feb. 28.
The Windsor community stepped in to help with fundraising as well. Pelican Jo’s, Quiznos and Coldstone Creamery all donated a little money from each sale to Make-A-Wish.
Share the Love Week was packed with fun activities and friendly competition.
