On Oct. 9, the boys soccer team delivered an impressive performance that resulted in the end of their recent losing streak. The game held at home field saw the team dominate over Greeley West with a final score of 8-2.
The first half of the game was intense and showed both teams’ resilience, with Greeley West displaying strong defensive plays while Windsor showed strong offensive plays. Just before half time, Windsor found the back of the net with two goals, the first being scored by defenseman James Parks (11) and the second being scored by forward Davin Khaffaji (12).
The second half saw Windsor not only maintain its momentum but also take control of the game using offensive and defensive skills.
Evan Van Pelt (12) and Zeke Wawrzyniak (11) both scored two goals each in the second half; the goalkeeper stood no chance, resulting in the Wizards finding the back of the net six times in the second half. Although the Spartans scored two goals in the second half, it was insignificant due to the large lead the Wizards had already obtained.
Although the Wizards had a strong offensive in the second half, the defensive side also got to show off skills with its goalie Tristyn Bruning (12), who kept the team in the game by saving four out of the six shots.
“It wasn’t the best,” Bruning said. “I made a mistake, but my teammates were able to gain it back for me, but it was still better than my performance from the last game.”
Darren Euresti (11) was on the defensive side of the game helping to keep the Spartans under control: “I think our defense was really good. It was a little rough in the second quarter, but we were able to take control and win.”
Coach Phil Weiser (staff) was pleased with the results of the game.
“I was very pleased with the game,” Weiser said. “Obviously when you win eight to two you gotta be happy, but hopefully we can use this game as momentum for our next game on Thursday.”
This victory reignited the team’s hope for the season, with many players hoping they can not only make it to playoffs but be a contender for state and rise to Weiser’s expectations for the rest of the season. Perhaps the team is ready to turn the losing streak into a winning streak.
