On Sept. 26, the girls volleyball team displayed an impressive set of skills and teamwork against Poudre High School’s volleyball team. The lady wizards clinched a victory, sweeping all three sets against the opposing team.
On the WHS home court, the team dominated Poudre with a combination of powerful serves, strategic sets and a powerful defense.
Server Presley Krasuski (11), who helped lead the lady wizards to victory, said, “We definitely did a good job energy-wise cause I think they were a lot of games where we got down, but with the Poudre game we were able to reset and get back to the best version of our game.”
From the first serve it was clear that the lady wizards were on a mission to take home a victory. Using communication and teamwork, the team took the lead, winning the first set 25-17. In this set, the girls volleyball team showcased its offensive skilsl as well as its tight coordination.
The second set showed a simular pattern with the team not only maintaining but also building their momentum. Although the teamwork has been off in previous games, the team was able to push through that barrier and work together.
“The teamwork was not as good as it has been in the past, and that game was not our best, but it was an improvement from the last game,” opposite hitter Jayda Nothdurft (10) said.
In the final set, it was a little bit of a closer game where the lady wizards had to display resilience and determination to close out the match and secure another victory to their already strong record. They executed their play and continued with strong defense to end the final set 25-20, winning all three sets.
“We got used to playing at their level, which is what made the match so close, but we were able to get back to our level and win the match,” Nothdurft said.
After the win against Poudre, the team was able to up their record to 7-4, winning 63% of their games so far this season. Although the Wizards were able to breeze through this game, WHS waits for the upcoming matches with the hopes that the volleyball team will overcome challenging teams and continue to bring more victories home.
The volleyball is also eager to move forward and continue with wins: “Kind of using this game as momentum to push us forward for the team. We have already lost to these teams so hopefully we can win those matches back,” Krasuski said.
